FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FEBRUARY 5, 2009
Are you ready to surf THE NEXT REAL WAVE?
This imaginatively programmed night of fresh and exciting emerging musical talent promises to be a genuine highlight of Canadian Music Week '09’s live music component.
The action takes place on Thursday, March 12th in the coolly chic setting of The Black Betty, situated adjacent to The Fifth, Duncan & Richmond, in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district.
The night’s curator and organizer is Bobby Gale, a popular veteran of the Canadian music industry, as a veteran radio DJ/programmer, record label promotion/publicity guy, and head of in-demand radio promotion/music marketing/A&R company plug (MUSIC) Inc.
For The Next Real Wave, this passionate music enthusiast combed far and wide to present a well-balanced bill of five truly original artists.
They range from an Englishman in New York (alt-pop songsmith Chris Hicken, aka) Cantinero, to a powerful rock songstress from Iqualuit, Lucie Idlout. In between their opening and closing sets are performances from fast-rising Brooklyn-based duo KaiserCartel, melodic Toronto band Birds Of Wales, and adventurous B.C. rockers Bend Sinister.
“This will be a concert where what matters is the flow, so the music at 10 matches what was on at 9, and so on. The background music will add to that and I’m even considering having standup comics,” explains Gale.
The connecting thread, he says, is that “this is a bill of genuinely gifted performers who are also gifted songwriters. That is the essence of it. Everything is based on live performance these days. I believe these acts are all capable of being part of that next real wave of artists. See them once and you’d pay to come back and see them again.”
A CMW night not to be missed!
